Blenheim welcomes Public Health England’s support for Minimum Unit Pricing for alcohol

Blenheim CDP welcomes Public Health England’s (PHE) recognition of the evidence that Minimum Unit Pricing (MUP) is an effective method of tackling the health challenges associated with alcohol.

On 10th August 2018 Public Health England updated their paper; The public health burden of alcohol and the effectiveness and cost-effectiveness of alcohol control policies: an evidence review, to include a section on the efficacy and cost effectiveness of MUP for alcohol.

In this report Public Health England highlight that reducing the affordability of alcohol is the most effective approach to prevention and health improvement, noting that MUP provides a highly targeted method to improve the health of the heaviest drinkers.

Blenheim looks forward to working closely with Public Health England to ensure MUP is enshrined in any upcoming Government alcohol strategy, belatedly bringing England in line with the rest of the UK on this important measure.
