Lewisham Recovery Month Event

On the afternoon of Friday 6 September there was a packed conference room in Lewisham Council’s Civic Suite for a Recovery Month event bringing together staff members and service users from across the borough’s recovery community.

The event kicked off with attendees gathering for some networking and refreshments. After this they took their seats for the opening words, followed by a recovery presentation from Lewisham Council’s Service User Involvement Team.

Humankind Area Manager Pam Menzies-Banton then took to the stage to introduce the highlight of the event: a screening of the shortlisted films for this year’s Recovery Street Film Festival. The finalists were selected by a panel of industry judges and revealed at the festival launch on 2 September.

To round off the afternoon, Pam presented a certificate to the winner. Junaid Khan, who took first place this year for his moving film ‘The Beast Inside Me’, is a volunteer at Humankind’s Lewisham Primary Care Recovery service.

You can watch all of this year’s shortlisted Recovery Street Film Festival films , including Junaid’s winning effort, at the festival YouTube channel.
