ALCOHOL IDENTIFICATION AND BRIEF ADVICE

This half day course provides delegates with a general overview of alcohol awareness including: using AUDIT screening tool, calculating units, low risk guidelines, harms and effect and how to deliver brief advice.

EXTENDED BRIEF INTERVENTIONS

On this full day course delegates will explore what EBI is, how and when to deliver the four steps of an EBI session, and develop practical skills in motivational interviewing.

ALCOHOL DEPENDENCE, MANAGING WITHDRAWAL AND TREATMENT 

This full day course enables participants to understand alcohol dependence, withdrawal and detoxification and how to clinically manage these conditions and processes.

Mark Holmes (Dependency Training)

Mark Holmes, BSc, RMN, SPMH is the Assistant Director and Head of Innovation at Humankind, and has been a mental health nurse for over 25 years. In his career he has developed services in community treatment, hospital alcohol liaison, Brief Treatment, alcohol related long term conditions and end of life care.

Mark has been awarded two Nursing Times Awards: The Mental Health Nurse of the year in 2012 and LTC Team of the year in 2016. Mark has also co-authored national influential publications including the Blue Light Project. He has been a member of many expert panels including WHO and currently sits on PHE expert group for alcohol treatment.

Alice Hawken (IBA, EBI and Dependency training)

Alice Hawken is a Senior Community Lifestyle Trainer working in Haringey’s Alcohol Treatment service (formally HAGA) for 5 years. She develops and delivers innovative and impactful alcohol awareness, campaigns, events, projects and training focused on brief interventions (IBA). She specialises in delivering IBA in a community setting.

After four years of delivering specialist alcohol training Alice has achieved Level 3 Award in Education and Training from City & Guilds. Building on her experience and knowledge this accredited work-based learning course has given her a broad foundation in training theory and practice to support her professional knowledge base.

Previously, Alice worked in the Criminal Justice setting at a number of prison establishments delivering drug and alcohol intervention programmes in both adult and youth settings.
